François Guy De BOAVISTA
- Born in HANOÏ (VIET-NAM ) on 31st of May 1952
- At the age of 6 started sailing with his father
- Started racing in FIREBALL Class when he was 15 and became, first regional, then national champion in 1970.
-With Luc GELUSSEAU, he was a member of the French Team 470 Olympic Class from 1972 to 1975, and in 1975 won 4th place at the World Champ. FIREBALL.
During this period, he worked in La ROCHELLE in the Nautic Industry (Sailmaking, Mast & Boat Construction, Naval Achitecture)
He learnt from the best «Masters» of the time, Bertrand CHERET, Michel BRIAND and Niel PRYDE about sail & mast, and from Michel JOUBERT about boat-design.
1976 : Started competing in WINDSURFING
- Vice champion in the French National Champ.
- Won 4th place in World Champ. Bahamas .
- Participated in the creation of the MISTRAL company and WINDSURF magazine
1977 : Vice World Champion in Sardinia
1978 - 79 & 80: - Desinged & shaped the board of «JET surf» company
1981 : Worked for the new french company «TIGA board». Became a team manager of the TIGA team with the best French windsurfers :(Rahael SALES, Eric THIEME, Jenna De ROSNAY, then Pascal MAKA and Babeth COQUELLE)
1983 : Designer with the «PM shape» team in Toulon.
1984 : Opened the first funboard school in L'Almanarre (French Riviera)
1985 : Opened the first «François GUY Windsurf Center» in BENDOR island (French Riviera)
Discovered a new windsurf destination : CABO VERDE. (the first windsurf trip was performed with Eric THIEME, Babeth COQUELLE and WIND mag.)
1986 : Opened the first windsurf club in Sta MARIA , ilha do SAL, and brought the first tourists to CABO VERDE
1989 : Established the first windsurf club in the BOAVISTA island, and by that, enabled the touristic developement of the island.
1991 to 94: Worked at the Ministry of Tourism of CABO VERDE as a consultant
1995 : Came back to BOAVISTA to re-open the windsurf Club with UCPA International
2000 - 02: Built a new club «Os ALISIOS» in BOAVISTA with new partners, Jean-Marie VINCENT.
